CU Denver Galleries - Generalist Design

The Emmanuel Art Gallery and CU Denver Experience Gallery on Auraria campus work with the University of Colorado Denver to showcase student, staff, and professional art in an engaging and educational fashion. I work with the gallery coordinator as a generalist designer to create print and digital promotional materials for their exhibitions.

The Process

The Brief:

The University of Colorado Denver hired me as a generalist designer to work with the Emmanuel Art Gallery and the CU Denver Experience Gallery on digital, print, and web designs to advertise exhibitions and strengthen their brand.

Brand Strategy:

The Emmanuel Art Gallery and CU Denver Experience Gallery are focused on different aspects of art. The Emmanuel uses a classic gallery setting of clean white walls to emphasize the art on display while the CU Denver Experience Gallery is more experimental, and in addition to showing off their pieces they emphasize interactive exhibits. The Emmanuel's logo and branding are black and white, while the Experience Gallery's branding is bright and uses bold colors. To match my designs to each brand, I created designs that mimic each gallery’s aesthetic. For the Emmanuel, I delivered sophisticated, educational, and black and white designs with conservative pops of color. For the Experience Gallery, I chose designs that were experimental and included brighter pops of color. The content of individual exhibitions also dictated the style of each design.

The Deliverables:

  • Postcards, fliers, 11x17 and 24x38 print posters to advertise exhibitions around Auraria Campus

  • Digital collateral to advertise exhibitions: presentation slides, web, and email banners

  • Rebuild the CU Denver Experience Gallery website previously named “Next Stage Gallery,” to match the new CU Denver Experience Gallery branding

  • A large banner with the Emmanuel logo to hang outside of the Emmanuel Art Gallery
